Valg af Red Hat version

Red Hat Enterprise Linux licenser er opdelt efter socket antal og/eller Antal guests.

Der er indtil videre udgaver til maximum 2 sockets (Fysiske CPU sockets, det er ligegyldigt hvor mange cores du har pr. CPU), 4 sockets og 8 sockets.

Ligeledes er der varianter af disse, med licens til 1  guest (virtuel server), 4 guests eller unlimited guests.

Har man f.ex. en server med 4 fysiske CPU'er man vil bruge som virtualiseringsserver (svarende til VMWare ESX) vha. f.ex. kvm eller andre af de virtualiseringsteknologier Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server tilbyder, skal man bruge en licens til 4 sockets med unlimited guests.
